Modern technology allows today's horse racing fan to place wagers on nearly any track across America from the comfort of their own home via sites like WinTicket.com, YouBet.com and PhoneBet.com -- or via one of over 900 Off Track Betting facilities. Not to mention one of over 60 locations with live racing throughout the year.
Thus DRS was designed with the simulcast player in mind. By browsing numerous tracks you can practically build your own custom list of races each day that best meet your own personal taste or criteria for wagering.

Generally races are eliminated from an initial list of races to watch, for one of two reasons.
First Reason: Small fields (say fewer than 8 horses).
Second Reason: The top DRS selections are a virtual mirror of the M/L odds (no overlays).
The player should be aware that sometimes the actual closing pari-mutuel odds can differ widely from the M/L odds. We have seen M/L 7-2 odds close at 25-1 and conversely 25-1 M/L odds close at 7-2.

DRS Developers have found that the following principles guide the success of placing a winning wager on thoroughbred horse racing:

* The higher the Class of horses, the greater the number of horses in the race and the higher the Purse or Stakes of a race, the greater the accuracy of the DRS forecast and odds.

* Traditional Win/Place/Show wagers are best suited for occassions when there exists a large "overlay" opportunity between the DRS forecast and odds versus the para-mutuel or morning line odds.

* How Deep do You Want to Go?!
With a field of 9 or more horses, DRS can effectively be utilized to place "exotic" Exacta, Trifecta and Superfecta wagers.

Boxing a series of horses up to 5 deep for an Exacta is one example of such an exotic wager profile.

Placing a "Partial Wheel" for $1 or $2 on a Trifecta with 5 horses over 7 horses over 9 horses is another example of such an exotic bet profile for DRS users. Evaluating the Wins/1000 can help you decide if you should instead place this wager as 4 over 6 over 8 instead. Several factors can play into each race scenario that dictate different configurations.

In a Supferfecta exotic wager, one places the wager 4 layers deep and uses DRS to predict which horses are more likely to come in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place in that exact order.

Thus a wager could cover 5 top picks over 7 top picks over 9 top picks over 11 top picked horses deep or even a 4 over 6 over 8 over 10 horses deep depending on the number of horses in the race and/or the Wins/1000.

There are several other factors to consider for each wagering experience including amount of data for each horse, the horse's morning workout ranking, whether the surface is turf, artificial or dirt, etc.

However, the single largest mistake of all players, whether they use DRS or not, is undisciplined money managment. Having a strategy, a money management system and a budget limit -- and sticking to each of those will always serve you better over time.
